Recommitting

It's time to get blogging again.

37 weeks, 1 day. Okay, so there's the biggest reason it's time to get blogging again...it's become difficult to focus on anything but an end to The Gestation. Two hundred and sixty days down. Twenty days to go. Four hundred eighty hours, give or take. Yeah, it's time to meet this kid already.

Things to think and laugh about other than the thing blocking the view of my shoes:

1. My funny, funny Jack. His highlights for the week:
  • After spending the better part of Saturday bowing to the gods of retail & getting him ready in every way for the miracle of second grade, we were both spent. He described our marathon as "X-treme" shopping. Take that, X Games.
  • Camp can be a rough, and it was for Jack yesterday. He suffered a major knee scrape during some horseplay, and was (naturally) milking it for what it for what little it was worth when he got home. The milking seemed to intensify at bedtime (shocking!) and after his bath he came hobbling over to M and I, naked as can be, and asked, "Hey? Do you guys have any alcohol?" Of course he was referring to more of the rubbing alcohol treatment he got from his camp counselors, but I had to pause for a moment and make sure I wasn't back in the dorms.

2. Knitting my way to China. Okay, so most of my projects have been for the Shoe Blocking Person Not to Be Named in This List, but I'm turning out new stuff daily like a one woman sweat shop. Next on the list: Finally making a blanket from the three great colors of Blossom I picked up a year ago. Soft, cool, and oh so yummy. It should be done just in time to get spit up on.

3. Good books. I'm enjoying Midnight In the Garden of Good and Evil right now, although the vivid descriptions of crazy Southerners are giving me completely whacked out dreams. It's nice to have some significant time between seeing the film and reading the book--I've had no problems with the typical movie errors/oversights/omissions, and John Cusack and Kevin Spacey have managed to stay the hell out of my book.

4. Fall is coming! I know I couldn't be more ridiculous for already wishing it fall. It's August 8th, after all. Maybe I'll just blame it on all that retail craziness over the weekend. Yes, the stores have pulled out the pumpkins.

5. Birthday cake. Thirty one years of being part of the magic. Wow how time flies.
